Well, it’s finally over.
I’ve been working for almost a year now on a project that absolutely refused to die. We’d finish it, declare a release candidate, and meanwhile the client company would have internal management changes. The new manager would then want to make sweeping changes (some of which were even decent ideas… but most were honestly just pointless and damning for the project). And we all know how that goes.
Over 7500 lines of code (95% of which were all me). 140mb of assets under version control (who knows how many photos never made it into subversion…). Almost a year of involvement on my part, and something closer to three years on the part of people who’ve been stuck on this project longer than me
What was the project, you ask? It was a “database” search client that would allow people to dig through the company’s entire (highly customizable) product line in a variety of ways. It was meant to help expedite an otherwise highly complicated ordering process. And it worked. It pushed the limits of what Flash 8 could do w/o bringing the machine to its knees. Remember my rant on XPath last May? That was this project.
We had given them several potential 1.0 releases. Even now, the build they have is a viable product that would be very useful to their customers. But apparently, they don’t want a 1.0. They want to launch with a 3.0 release.
And now… there is peace ![]()
